i have no idea why i'm doing this
posting. i'm tired. well, at least i should be. i had a day today. well, i guess everyone had a day...probably a lot of people's were long, with the holiday and stuff. there're a couple things though...
1 - Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Tad and Hannah Blacketer!
WOW
amazing people, amazing examples in my life, and a marriage that i'm certain will be an amazing representation of Christ's relationship with the Church.
2 - i get to do it all next week! be a part of another amazing couple's wedding and share in that joy.
3 - this means that i'll be at home, unable to update (don't think i died, and if you do, call me, i miss you too, i promise!) :-D
4 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! it's 2006. that doesn't even seem real. much like the wedding today didn't feel real, instead, kind of like we were all playing dress up. i got to ring in the new year with some pretty amazing brothers and sisters here in Springfield. went downtown and watched fireworks. hard to believe that a year ago, we were in pretty much the exact same spot. it doesn't seem like that long, in some regards, and in others, it seems like an eternity ago. since then, ,i've had my first overseas flight (and my second!), finished two more semesters (otherwise known as a year) of college, lived in Russia for two months (stinkin' hard to believe), met some amazing people (Russians, freshmen, transfer students, Canadians, Floridians, uh, i'm gonna stop there...but there've been a lot!), and grown with people i already knew.
5 - my New Year's resolution. i'm stealing it from a missionary in South Asia (some people i know - pretty amazing people - are going to move there someday soon...*sniff sniff* no, no, i'm not crying, that's from being out in the cold - promise!). i'm sure this guy won't mind. it's simple, but it's the desire of my heart.
to know Him more.
"What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish (that's garbage, trash, things we throw away), that I may gain Christ and be found in Him."
Phil. 3:8-9
whatever it takes - to know Him more. that's all i want. but i'm so often deterred from my actual intent by distractions in cellophane wrap (wait, that's what some Chaffer guy once said, though...or says a lot, everytime i play (or anyone else does, for that matter) that one song that it's in - If you want to get free or something). but that stuff's usually crap (that's in the song too).
this missionary isn't someone i know. it's in that book that my parents gave me. and the next day's is about a girl recently graduated from college who up and left everything she ever knew and moved across the ocean. "Saying yes to Him is the best decision we can make. With Christ, we can look at the sky from whatever country we currently call home and know that He painted it for us."
"Voices of the Faithful"
that might be me someday. scary. exciting. i wanna go now sometimes, and others i wanna stay "home." downright doesn't make any sense...but when does following Christ ever make logical sense to me?
peace
