it's a matter of the heart
"Even if you and I don't get our words right, if our hearts are right, God hears them."
~Beth Moore in Voices of the Faithful.
this month's focus is prayer - something that's hard for me sometimes. we read the introduction this morning, and a couple questions on my heart this morning that were in there are:
Do you know that God hears you? Do you have absolute confidence that your prayers are heard? What if Christ showed up, robed and crowned, in the chair next to where you have your prayer time and said, "Go right ahead, child, I'm listening?" How differently would you pray? Is that old obstacle creeping up again? Are you thinking how much shorter God's will makes your prayer list? Do you sincerely have a heart for God? Are you regularly consuming His Word and pursuing and intimate relationship with Him even though none of us can claim to have "arrived" (Phil. 3:13)? Am i pouring my heart out? Am i making this too hard?
what does prayer look like from on top of the desk? why does He, the Creator of all things listen to us? to me?
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ak - we know that we have what we asked of him."
1 John 5:14-15
i don't want to take this verse too far. i don't want to be so dripping with confidence that i run into the Throne Room without reverance. i want to remember that i am in the very presence of the Creator of the entire Universe when i pray. but i also want to remember that i can have confidence - not because of anything i've done. not because i have His will figured out - or anything figured out, for that matter. but because He's proven Himself faithful so many times. even when the requests were small and seemingly insignificant, like asking for a rainbow.
i'm pretty excited about this month. and not just for morning devos with missionaries from around the world.
peace

Erin, it's so good to see you talking about the view from the top of the desk and asking so many questions. Winter retreat was an empowering experience that provoked so many thoughts that I probably put away too quickly. Thanks for the reminder...I'm gonna pull out and chew on some stuff from that weekend now. Later!
And yay, I'm a link. :)
